Nicole Kidman, an Omega ambassador since 2005, dazzled a group of journalists over two days in Vienna, Austria, for the launch of the new range of Omega Ladymatic watches. During a flying visit from London, where she is filming the thriller Before I Go to Sleep with Colin Firth, Kidman attended a gala dinner and met the press.
The ever-elegant star appeared in a demure, cream Nina Ricci suit and Nicholas Kirkwood shoes for the press interviews and wore a floor-length Oscar de la Renta gown with Hervé Léger shoes and Roger Vivier clutch for the previous night’s gala. During a candid interview, Kidman admitted husband Keith Urban and her two daughters sometimes help her with her outfit choices for the red carpet. “I tend to solicit the opinions of all three of them even though one of them is only two,” says Kidman.
“I’ve actually changed when my husband said something’s not great.” On the matter of the latest rumour that she is planning to renew her vows, the actress was quick to deny this. “My mother called me and asked: ‘Are you renewing your vows?’ and I said: ‘No’. I don’t know where it came from,” she says, with a laugh. It seems her husband influences more than just Kidman’s red-carpet looks. “He likes natural and he likes something that’s not so ‘done’, which I would say speaks for a lot of men,” she says. “I’ve definitely changed my style since I’ve been with him.”When it comes to her watch, Kidman, of course, has access to the Omega Ladymatic collection. She explains that aside from the impressive mechanical features of the Ladymatic, a woman’s watch is an important fashion accessory. “I suppose it’s the equivalent to shoes and bags in a way,” she says. “You can be funky, you can be quirky, or you can be very straight down the line – in terms of the watch and the band as well.”
Arriving punctually for her interview, Kidman mentions how important being on time is to her. “I like to have my own watch on – I don’t want to be asking other people what time it is. Working in the film industry as a child, you learn to be on time,” she says. “I was taught a very strong work ethic that included punctuality, which I’ve always felt is a sign of respect for others.”
Kidman admits that when she does have spare time, she likes to spend it daydreaming. “I love lying around with no book or anything,” she says. “I used to do it as a kid and I still do it. When I do, it’s when I come up with ideas.”
