Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Fergie and friends light up New York's 'Nine' premiere

No film this year has a celeb-packed ensemble like Rob Marshall's new one does -- and nary a lunch, photo call or premiere (including the Dec. 9 event in L.A.) has taken place without obscenely A-list attendance from the "Nine" cast. The arrival photos are below, but even more delicious Tuesday night in New York were ...

... the equally famous pals who showed face to give support, including Madonna with daughter Lourdes and Jessica Seinfeld (minus their mutual bestie Gwyneth Paltrow), Golden Globe nominee Tobey Maguire with wife Jen Meyer, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, and Kidman's BFF Naomi Watts. "Nine" has drummed up tons of acclaim, including lots of Golden Globe nods Tuesday morning. With a cast like this, is anyone surprised?

We have two really powerful actors in the lead role, so I think we can expect some powerful performances especially with the story of the film. Plus as I recently mentioned, I would watch Aaron Eckhart in pretty much anything.  Rabbit Hole also stars Dianne Wiest, Sandra Oh, Jon Tenney, and is directed by John Cameron Mitchell. Hopefully we'll get a trailer and a release date soon.

Scarlett Johansson versus Nicole Kidman in tour war

January 2, 2009 |13:10 | Movies  By : Team X

The threesome is a key feature of a movie using alluring fantasies to promote Spanish tourism in the same way Baz Luhrmann's Australia was supposed to sell the Land Down Under to international travellers.

Apparently taking a leaf out of Tourism Australia's $50 million cmapaign to exploit Australia abroad, the National Tourist Office of Spain has launched a campaign around Woody Allen's current offering at the box office, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Which stars would be more likely to woo you - the Spanish saucepots or the homegrown hotties of Australia? Vote below right.Today The Australian reports that a full-page newspaper advertisement encouraged readers to "watch Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the next day, book your trip to Catalonia."

An Australian Western

November 27, 2008 |13:23 | Movies  By : Team X

As if to prove the point, Aussie filmmaker Baz Luhrmann has made an epic about his home country, and filled it with an overstuffed kitbag of Hollywoodesque images and styles borrowed from decades past. It's set in and around Darwin in the Northern Territories, but darned if the landscape won't remind you of Monument Valley.

The costumes are authentic to the eve of World War II period, but danged if there aren't lots of cowboy hats, stampeding cattle herds and native medicine men.And even though the leads feature Nicole Kidman as a haughty aristocrat and Hugh Jackman as a flinty cowboy, you could swear you were watching Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert amid all those wide open spaces (and, for good measure, a horse and a dog).

Several scenes depict and decry white-men-only discrimination with a '50s-like "Gentleman's Agreement" tone.Thankfully, all that borrowed material can't dim Luhrmann's obvious love for the outback, nor his earnestness in shooting it all in scrumptious color with one sweeping vista after another.

Safety concerns behind Cruise's bulletproof cars

June 17, 2008 |15:16 | Gossips | Movies  By : Team X

Tom Cruise has had bulletproof glass fitted on all his cars following growing concerns for his family's safety.

The Mission: Impossible star is reportedly so worried about the safety of his wife Katie Holmes and three children he has kitted out his entire collection of vehicles with top-of-range security.

A source said: “It sounds like Tom has taken a page out of one of his action movies. A-list celebrities know they can’t be too careful. Tom’s vehicles look perfectly normal, but in reality they are more like armoured trucks.

"He really, really loves his cars and he can afford the best.”

Tom has also had bombproof features included on his car and has had his drivers trained in self-defence.

However, the 45-year-old actor - who has a two-year-old daughter Suri with Katie, and two adopted children, Connor and Isabella, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman - prefers to drive his cars himself whenever possible.

The source added to In Touch Weekly magazine: “Tom is a car nut. He has practical everyday cars, classic collectibles and high-powered sports cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo.

"Of course he loves every minute behind the wheel, but he’s not stupid and he’s not going to take any chances while he’s driving.”

Cruise, Kidman, Streisand Remember Pollack

May 28, 2008 |13:14 | Gossips | Movies  By : Team X

Judging by the A-list tributes extended by those who worked with director Sydney Pollack, he wasn't just a dedicated filmmaker, he was a dedicated friend.

"I first met him while he was in the midst of editing Tootsie (one of the all-time classics)," Tom Cruise said of Pollack, who died Monday at 73 after a battle with cancer.

"I'd seen every one of his pictures and he generously took the meeting. Years later, having lived through some short post schedules myself, I realized just how generous. He spent over six hours, with the patience of Job, answering all my questions.

"Throughout the years, unpretentious and never condescending, he shared with me what he loved about family, storytelling, food, flying and a great bottle of vino," said Cruise, who acted for Pollack in The Firm and costarred with him in Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.

In brief: Kidman to play Dusty Springfield

Nicole Kidman 'to sing in film role'

April 15, 2008 |17:25 | Gossips | Interviews | Movies  By : Team X

She has already had fun crooning on the set of Moulin Rouge with Ewan McGregor, not to mention the single she recorded with Robbie Williams.

Now it seems Nicole Kidman is considering another big-screen singing role.

Reports surfacing from the US say Kidman is considering a role in a film called Nine, a musical loosely based on Federico Fellini's 8, which tells the story of a director and the women in his life.

Interestingly, if Kidman accepts the role she may appear in the cast alongside Penelope Cruz - who dated Tom Cruise after his marriage split from Kidman.

The film is already chock full of Oscar-winners: Javier Bardem has accepted the leading role, with Marion Cotillard also on the list.

The musical will be directed by Rob Marshall, who made Chicago with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger. Kidman, who was in the school choir during her days at North Sydney Girls High School (something her mum Janelle has always been proud of) is said to be very interested in signing up for the all-singing extravaganza.

NICOLE KIDMAN AND JUDI DENCH BECOME WOMEN IN JAVIER BARDEM'S LIFE

April 9, 2008 |12:03 | Gossips | Interviews | Movies  By : Team X

If Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench officially sign on to director Rob Marshall's NINE, Javier Bardem will find himself surrounded by some of the most beautiful female actresses working today, including Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NINE is an adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical, itself an adaptation of Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8 1/2, about a film director (Bardem) juggling the needs of several women in his life.

The late (and truly great) Anthony Minghella was working on the script rewrite when the strike began, so the project's been delayed. NINE may now begin filming in September.

Kidman is no stranger to musicals: she knocked Baz Lurhmann's MOULIN ROUGE! out of the park. But she'll be giving birth this summer, so scheduling hurdles are considered likely.
