Why can't Nicole Kidman cut a break? There was no hiding the cynical glee emanating yesterday, when news emerged Kidman's latest film, a thriller opposite Nicolas Cage called Trespass, was ''going straight to video''.
And nowhere are Kidman's critics more vocal than in Australia. Comic Wil Anderson, in his eternal quest to be funny, tweeted: ''Nicole Kidman's new movie is so bad it's going straight-to-video. In fact apparently it's so bad it's going straight to Beta video.'' The film is actually having a dual cinema/download release, with the DVD following soon after.
And while she may be the godmother of Rupert Murdoch's youngest daughters, Grace and Chloe, she has not been granted immunity, with his henchmen writing: ''The Oscar-winner, whose very name used to be enough to command space at the multiplexes and a lavish promotional campaign, is facing the indignity of being dumped in the movie graveyard.''
Ouch. But don't write her off just yet. Kidman's schedule remains hectic. She is filming The Paperboy opposite Matthew McConaughey before going into production on a thriller called Stoker, written by Wentworth Miller. Oh, and she's going to make an appearance on ... Sesame Street.
